Mysterious human heads
There is much to suggest that the approximately 2400-year-old gold neck ring of the "Celtic prince of the Glauberg" was a custom-made piece. It is a masterpiece of Celtic goldsmithing. Only an elite person could afford such a precious piece of jewellery.
You have to have a very keen eye to recognise the fine details on the original in the display case. That's why we're showing the neck ring up close in the photo. Can you recognise the pattern on the ring? They are human heads in profile. There are ten in total, lined up head to head, shoulder to shoulder. We would love to know what this meant. Were they defeated enemies? Gods? The Celts leave us with many puzzles.
The three large pegs and the decorated gold plates are clearly visible. You can now also see that the gold wire next to the pegs consists of tiny spirals. Then, curiously, there is a small human figure standing on its head. But only we see it like this. For if its wearer once looked at the ring around his neck, the figure stood upright. It has raised its arm in a gesture whose meaning was definitely known at the time. Today we can only guess. You can also see it on the stone figure.
