PATHS THROUGH TIME. THE HISTORY OF GLAUBERG
From 22.3.2024 until the end of 2025
The Keltenwelt am Glauberg is known far beyond the borders of Germany as the home of the "Celtic prince of the Glauberg". Together with the rich grave inventories from three graves of Celtic warriors from around 400 BC, the life-size and detailed sandstone statue with its distinctive "Mickey Mouse ears" emphasises the importance of the Glauberg as a fortified centre of activity for a Celtic elite.
However, the eventful history of the mountain on the eastern edge of the Wetterau (Hesse) has left behind many more relics from many phases of the past. In 2024, the special exhibition "Paths through time. The history of the Glauberg". Numerous finds, most of which have never been exhibited before, illustrate the multifaceted history of the Glauberg on around 150 square metres. The concept of the exhibition takes up the idea of a walk around the mountain. The archaeological sites are therefore not presented chronologically, but in the order in which they are encountered along the virtual trail.
Neolithic settlement finds alternate with Roman metal scrap, and Neolithic grave goods are followed by Iron Age jewellery. Just like the finds illustrating life in a medieval castle, previously presented artefacts from the Bronze Age provide an insight into long-forgotten times. Late antiquity and an "intoxicating" episode from the 18th century also find their place in the exhibition. At the end, a rest area invites visitors to relax and take a closer look at their favourite pieces on touchscreens.
Visitors are always "accompanied" by an archaeologist, who provides interesting background information on the respective time periods at all nine stations. The virtual walk into the past of the Glauberg is therefore not only a journey back into local history, but also briefly and concisely categorises the settlement phases in the history of Europe.
