Guiding principles of the Celtic world at Glauberg
As of 2026
Profile and mission
The Celtic World at Glauberg (KWG), one of two sites belonging to the Archaeological State Museum of Hesse (ALMhessen), is structured around a three-pillar model. This model comprises the museum with its museum garden, the archaeological park, and the research center. A dedicated restaurant, integrated with these pillars, complements this structure. Our unique institution is located directly at the original site of the outstanding, internationally significant finds of the "Princely Graves of Glauberg." We see ourselves as a center for the research and dissemination of Celtic culture and the Iron Age in Hesse within their international context. Furthermore, we consider ourselves a showcase for Hessian state archaeology. As an extracurricular learning center – both at Glauberg and at Konradsdorf Monastery – we provide socially relevant impetus. With our award-winning architecture in an idyllic landscape, we also strive to further enhance the region's appeal.
Values and norms
We are expressly committed to the values of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany and the free and democratic order. Scientific integrity, objectivity, openness, and transparency form the basis of our work. Our interactions with one another and with our visitors are characterized by courtesy, helpfulness, and friendliness. We communicate on equal terms, foster collegiality, and strive for sustainability in all our actions. Customer service is of paramount importance to us, and we place great value on commitment and reliability, continuously working to improve the inclusion and integration of as many people as possible.
Tasks
The core tasks of the KWG include presenting the finds and discoveries from Glauberg and their further research, as well as researching and presenting the Iron Age in general. We communicate the results, along with the archaeological methods that led to them, to a broad public in an entertaining, accessible, and creative way. We offer visitors attractive and educational leisure activities and strive to make these accessible to all segments of society.
Target groups and partners
Our work benefits society as a whole. Our services are aimed at those interested in archaeology and those who might develop an interest. Therefore, we also specifically target educational and research institutions, from kindergartens and schools to adult education centers and universities. We are embedded in a dense regional, national, and international network of collaborations in the fields of research, education, tourism, gastronomy, and politics, and we work purposefully with our partners on a wide variety of projects.
vision
Over the next ten years, we aim to develop a new permanent exhibition and complete the construction of our research center. UNESCO World Heritage status is also a key objective. Our long-term goal is to become the leading research museum on the Celtic Iron Age in the German-speaking world. We intend to expand the ALMhessen concept and adopt a holistic approach based on the three-pillar model. This means that we will involve all three pillars of our institution in our projects whenever possible. More concrete goals include creating scientifically sound "life stories." We plan to improve public transport connections, strengthen and intensify our network of partnerships, and increase visitor numbers. Visitor satisfaction and accessibility are central to our efforts. We want to learn from the past and continuously improve our expertise. To this end, we are expanding the Celtic World Academy.
With this guiding principle, we aim to establish the Celtic World at Glauberg as an open and vibrant research, education and cultural center that gains recognition both nationally and internationally.
