The State Palaces and Gardens of Hesse (SG), the Celtic World at Glauberg, and the Konradsdorf Comprehensive School have entered into a cooperation agreement to systematically integrate Konradsdorf Monastery into the curriculum as an extracurricular learning location. The aim of the cooperation is to provide students of all grade levels with direct access to history, monument preservation, and cultural heritage.
The former Premonstratensian convent, whose origins date back to the end of the 12th century, is a significant cultural monument in the Wetterau region and is now one of the best-researched medieval monasteries in Hesse from an archaeological perspective. This makes it a valuable resource for teaching various subjects. The content is prepared in school, explored in greater depth on site, and then followed up with further discussions. The Celtic World at Glauberg plays a central role in providing subject-specific and pedagogical support, as well as in training teachers.
„By integrating Konradsdorf Monastery as an extracurricular learning site, we are strengthening educational work at our monuments and making history directly tangible,“ emphasizes Volker Gilbert, Deputy Director of the SG. „This cooperation exemplifies how monument preservation, education, and school instruction can be meaningfully intertwined.“
The Celtic World at Glauberg also sees great potential in the collaboration: „The Konradsdorf Monastery offers ideal
“These are the prerequisites for vividly conveying historical, social, and cultural topics,„ said Director Marcus Coesfeld. “We are pleased to contribute our expertise in communication and to develop sustainable educational programs together with the school and SG.”
For the Konradsdorf comprehensive school, the cooperation opens up new possibilities for vibrant lessons: "The direct learning location strengthens our students' understanding of history as well as their responsibility for and handling of cultural heritage," says Tobias Stolte, headmaster of the Konradsdorf comprehensive school. "The long-term collaboration provides us with a reliable framework to firmly anchor the monastery in everyday school life."„
The cooperation is designed to be open-ended and includes regular evaluation. It begins with the signing of the agreement and will be developed further step by step.
