Workshop: Weaving a shepherd's sling
The shepherd's sling is a very old and widespread weapon. Julius Caesar also describes its use by Celtic tribes in his account of the Gallic Wars. Although numerous archaeological finds of sling projectiles exist from Celtic times, we don't know what the slings looked like, nor what materials they were made of. Perhaps they resembled the weapon found in the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Inspired by this find, we will weave a shepherd's sling from natural fibers in the workshop. Once finished, it can be thoroughly tested in the museum garden.
No prior knowledge required – curiosity is enough!
Materials will be provided.
