Workshop: Nordic-style comb weaving
There is evidence of comb-woven borders dating back to the Hallstatt period. The technique is still widespread today in the northern and eastern regions of Europe. These were mostly decorative borders made by brides for their dowries, especially for festive and Sunday best.
Weaving preparation (tensioning the warp) and weaving technique are explained, and assistance is given for both. The basics of pattern creation, what to pay particular attention to
Paying attention to detail is also a topic of this workshop. Participants will begin a sample loom that will enable them to design and weave further patterns at home. Three different patterns will be available for each participant to take home. The heddle loom is made of wood and can be brought along if desired, or purchased at cost after registration for the course.
After registering by email to Natur-kulturfuehrer@freenet.de, participants will receive a list of materials and tools they need to bring.
