Symposium: The working group „Archaeotechnology and Experimental Archaeology“
Experimental archaeology in the Celtic world at Glauberg – tasks, goals, opportunities
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Celtic World at Glauberg invites you to a thematic kick-off event on experimental archaeology. The aim of the day is to attract interested participants to collaborate in four newly formed working groups and to jointly develop an introduction to the methods, questions, and practical approaches of experimental archaeology.
Following an introduction to the scientific foundations of the method – beyond mere "archaeological tinkering" – the central research questions of the Glauberg Research Center will be presented. Building on this, four thematic areas of work will be introduced: nutrition, iron, textiles, and martial arts. In these areas, experimental projects will be developed, carried out, and scientifically monitored in the future.
The event is explicitly designed as a participatory and networking format. It is aimed at people who are interested in actively and long-term involvement in one of the working groups – regardless of whether they come from research, education, crafts, or are interested volunteers.
The aim is to establish viable working groups that will jointly develop and bring to life experimental archaeology in the Celtic world at Glauberg in the future.
