Celtic World Lecture: The (Late) Roman Finds from Glauberg
Lecture by Henrik Schäfer MA
The late Roman phase on the Glauberg is known primarily from the excavations in the 1930s. However, the loss of a large part of the finds and their documentation during the Second World War makes it considerably more difficult to study this period of settlement on the mountain. The period between Roman and Frankish rule over the Wetterau not only represents a central phase in the history of the Glauberg, but also makes an important contribution to understanding the relationship between the Roman Empire and Germanic hilltop settlements in the so-called border foreland. The aim of the speaker's master's thesis was to systematically analyze all old and new finds from this period on the plateau in order to investigate the dating and character of the settlement. The speaker will present the results of his work in this lecture.
