Celtic World Forum: A warrior, a sword – and what else? Research on a grave from the early Hallstatt period in Ober-Wöllstadt, Wetteraukreis
Lecture by Dr. Axel G. Posluschny and Thomas Lessig-Weller MA
During excavations in the cemetery of Ober-Wöllstadt/Hesse in 2018, a rich early Hallstatt burial was uncovered with an iron sword in a wooden scabbard, an iron garment pin, nineteen vessels and various bronze objects.
The lecture will first focus on the findings and the grave goods. The bronze objects deserve particular attention. They will be interpreted and presented as the remains of an object whose type has not yet been identified in early Hallstatt graves north of the Alps.
