Celtic World Lecture: Between Wetterau and Vogelsberg – Villages, Castles and Towns Reflected in Archaeological Sources
Lecture by Christoph Röder MA
Over the last 20 years, hessenARCHÄOLOGIE has carried out numerous excavations at castles, in towns and in deserted villages and can thus paint an impressive picture of the living environment, settlement development and landscape use from the 8th century AD to the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. The archaeologist Christoph Röder MA reports in a broad "overview" on his work to date and addresses numerous archaeological finds from the northern and eastern Wetterau and the eastern district of Gießen. In addition to the founding of the town on the Glauberg, abandoned villages, mining relics and forest glassworks in the Laubach Forest, Arnsburg Monastery near Lich and its surroundings, the Grass Castle and Estate near Hungen and numerous other aspects are illuminated and put into context.
