Family Sunday – Everything twisted? Twisting metal wires
Family Sunday – Everything twisted? Twisting metal wires
The Keltenwelt am Glauberg offers a hands-on programme for children and adults on this Sunday.
A characteristic piece of jewellery from the Iron Age is the so-called "torques". Following the Latin meaning of the word (lat. torquere = to turn, to wind, to turn around), on this family Sunday anyone who wants to can try their hand at the technique of twisting wires.
Winding wires is a great way to work in a team of two: couples, families, friends are welcome to "twist" together using a good wire. Then everyone can make a bracelet with a clasp or another object. In addition to twisting the wires (iron or copper), other techniques such as bending and hammering are used to complete the work.
