The Celtic World at Glauberg, together with the Physics Society, is hosting its 12th Astronomy Night on September 19th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. On this evening, everything in the museum and on the grounds will revolve around the moon, stars, and planets.

Astronomy enthusiasts of all ages, and those who want to become one, can expect a meteorite exhibition, an information point about astronomy, a creative station, and various telescopes for observing planets and stars. Anyone who wishes can also bring their own telescope.

An information stand run by the Physics Society and a creative corner for young stargazers provide entertainment. There, children can build astronomical models and color in astro-themed pictures to their heart's content.

The observatory's telescope trail on the grounds offers fascinating views of the moon and the giant planet Saturn. You can also participate in a special guided tour of the constellations. During this tour, you'll receive tips for navigating the night sky and delve into the captivating stories behind the constellations.

At the same time, there are exciting astronomical lectures in the museum bistro:

7:30 p.m.: Under the Spell of Black Holes

Black holes remain one of the greatest mysteries in astronomy and astrophysics. Within them, they push quantum physics and general relativity to their limits. The term "black hole" was coined in the 1960s. At that time, the theoretically described model was highly probable, yet defied observation. Since then, we have learned how black holes, although not directly visible themselves, affect their surroundings. Thanks to improved observational capabilities, they are captivating more and more astronomers and astrophysicists. This evening, we will attempt to gain an overview. .

8:30 p.m.: The 2000-year-old planetary computer of Antikythera

About 100 years ago, sponge divers recovered an archaeological sensation from a 2,000-year-old shipwreck near Crete: a corroded lump of metal. A multitude of bronze gears assembled into a complex mechanism. Dials and inscriptions indicate that this precision instrument was used to calculate calendar dates, planetary constellations, and even eclipses. To this day, it remains a mystery to scientists.

9:30 PM: Always trouble with the aliens

If you believe popular science reports in the media, it seems only a matter of time before a living exoplanet is discovered. Many experts are convinced of the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life – but so far, nothing has been found.
This lecture will address the chances of finding intelligent life somewhere in space, how it can be discovered, and what difficulties might arise in communicating with aliens.

The permanent exhibition and the special exhibition also „"Paths Through Time: The History of Glauberg" is open to visitors until 11 p.m. this evening, allowing them to explore the world of stars and Celtic history together. The museum bistro will be open for refreshments.

A gripping murder mystery dinner with a three-course meal, prepared by the Büdingen Theatre Manufactory in collaboration with the Celtic World at Glauberg – an experience that uniquely combines suspense, enjoyment and history.
