Volunteering in Archaeological Monument Preservation

First volunteer cards handed over on the Glauberg

Wiesbaden/Glauberg. On November 25th, the first two certificates for voluntary work in archaeological monument preservation were presented to Mr Werner Erk and Mr Walter Gasche at the Celtic World on Glauberg by the Hessian state archaeologist Prof. Dr. Udo Recker.

"Voluntary work has always played an important role in archaeology and monument preservation. It makes a valuable contribution to the research, preservation and presentation of our common archaeological heritage," explained Recker at Glauberg. In order to promote this important cooperation, hessenARCHÄOLOGIE at the State Office for Monument Preservation in Hesse is conducting the Volunteering in Archaeological Monument Preservation a.

The proposals for the voluntary work are drawn up by the district archaeology department of the State Office for Monument Preservation in Hesse. These proposals are based on a long-standing, trusting collaboration based on Hessian research permits. Werner Erk, who recently received the Federal Cross of Merit for his commitment, and Walter Gasche have earned an excellent reputation in the field of archaeological monument preservation through their long-standing joint commitment at Glauberg and beyond.

"With Werner Erk and Walter Gasche, we are honoring two outstanding personalities who have not only made a name for themselves through decades of voluntary work in the preservation of archaeological monuments, but also in particular for the Celtic world at Glauberg," said Marcus Coesfeld, director of the Celtic world at Glauberg. "They actively support hessenARCHÄOLOGIE in researching and preserving our archaeological heritage and at the same time share their extensive knowledge with visitors. During guided tours of the exhibition and across the mountain plateau, they always manage to pass on their passion for archaeology in an incomparable way and spark enthusiasm."

Erk and Gasche are examples of the successful combination of civic engagement and the Hessian Archaeological Monument Preservation. Erk and Gasche were suggested by the responsible district archaeologist Hardy Prison, who has worked closely with the two volunteers since he began his work in the Wetterau region.

This good cooperation can now be continued and expanded within the framework of the newly created voluntary work in the preservation of archaeological monuments.
